Weekly progress from the groups in the DPC.
Small Town Studio | Press Check
Friday morning Kate and I were finally able to go to our press check for the Small Town Studio business system. It was nice to be able to see and finally hold onto the business system we had worked hard on. More exciting will be delivering them to our clients soon!
Client Meeting, working toward a final identity option.
We are finishing the marathon of putting the final touches on our three concepts that we are to present to the Grand Rapids Student Advancement Foundation. Our presentation will take place at the Grand Rapids Public Library Friday afternoon and we are all excited to see which direction the client chooses.

Design Project Center Identity | Initial Idea Committee Meeting
Hello,
My team (Ashley Sudney, Kendall Baumann, Heath VanSingel,
and I) has been given the task of designing a new identity, or
re-branding, the DPC. Last Tuesday our team held our first Idea Committee meeting. For the past several weeks we have been
in the discovery phase of our process and a lot of it has been in preparation for this first meeting. While there is plenty of history behind the DPC, the goal behind this meeting was to find out how aware the Ferris State community is of the DPC and to get some ideas as to how the DPC should be portrayed. We got a lot of
good feedback. Not only did we engage in intuitive conversation, we handed out sticky notes to our guest so that they could
write down their thoughts. We appreciate all of the participation from our guest and look forward to seeing everyone again at
the next meeting.
This week STS has begun to explore our identity application.
Small Town Studio | Who are we?
Positioning Statement
A Ferris State University senior architecture student group that act as local community members in the West Michigan area in order to serve their communities through responsible and sustainable design.
Project Summary:
Architects and architectural students must retain connections to the patterns of everyday life in order to do their work effectively. The Small Town Studio is an initiative for students to have the opportunity to experience a studio environment before entering into the workforce. The studio will introduce students to the challenges and opportunities presented by real clients and real problems. The Small Town Studio implementation will bring a new Bachelor of Science in Architecture and Substantiality degree, with integrated community studies work. This new educational program will allow students to impact their community. The Small Town Studio initiative would like to promote student’s additional capabilities. There is no existing identity for the studio, the slate is clean. A few immediate goals include creative a studio identity and promotion sustainable practices within the community. In addition, a significant goal is to create awareness through promotion materials, signage, events, and even a marketing plan. Long-term, the Small Town Studio will be a tool and a resource for companies and people within the community – with the eventual move of the program to an off campus location in the downtown area.
Moving forward with thumbnails and concepts. We have multiple concepts and ideas and have decided to flush out digital comps to present to William and Alison.
Mindshare group getting ready to meet the with the Student Advancement Foundation for the first time. We discussed the Mindshare event, how it came about, and the history of the foundation. This meeting was a success and we received answers to all of our questions. We are excited to move forward with concepts and thumbnails.
